Foundation sets new fundraising record during RadioTéléDON

For the 14th consecutive year, the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation is pleased to have been able to count on the generosity of the public, its partners and fans during its #oneGOALtoASSIST RadioTéléDON.

The latest edition of this annual fundraiser, which aired on Thursday, March 9 on RDS, 98.5 FM and TSN 690 as the Montreal Canadiens faced the New York Rangers, raised a record amount of $224,468.

Funds were primarily raised through donations made online, by phone and by text message. Other fundraising activities such as the 50/50 Lottery offered online and at the Bell Centre, a special auction featuring warmup jerseys designed by artist Benoit Tardif, the sale of mystery bags on RDS and Foundation merch sold by Tricolore Sports also contributed to surpassing last year’s all-time high of $182,000 in donations. To date, nearly $1.9 million has been collected and redistributed throughout Quebec thanks to the generosity of donors, the dedication of volunteers and the support of partners since the very first edition of the RadioTéléDON.

“We are very grateful for the great generosity of the public and Canadiens fans who have once again heard and responded in large numbers to our call for solidarity. Their support will allow us to pursue our actions among youth in need, especially as we prepare to donate funds to several organizations working across Quebec. We would also like to thank our valued partners as well as all the members and friends of the great Canadiens family who have contributed in different ways to the success of this year’s RadioTéléDON,” said Geneviève Paquette, General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation.

Year after year, the funds raised help the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation carry on with its mission to help vulnerable youth across the province, in part by offering introductory ice-skating and ball hockey programs during the school year, as well as overnight camp stays over the summer holiday. Part of the proceeds are also donated each year to community organizations for projects and activities that allow children in need to adopt healthy lifestyles through physical activity. The Foundation will soon unveil the full list of organizations that will receive financial support this spring to get young people in their region active.

The Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation and its board of directors would like to express their sincere gratitude towards the outstanding support from Bell and the team’s broadcasters who contributed not only to the fundraising efforts, but also helped bring to light the Montreal Canadiens family’s commitment to contribute significantly to the welfare of the community. The Foundation would also like to thank Interac Corp for kickstarting this campaign by matching the first $10,000 in donations made by the public. The success of this 14th edition would not have been possible without the involvement of past and present Canadiens players, their spouses, numerous personalities and members of the organization who all graciously volunteered their time to collect donations over the phone.

Finally, the Foundation thanks fans everywhere for their generosity and unwavering support. Those wishing to donate can still do so at foundation.canadiens.com.
