IN RECOGNITION OF HIS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN 2006-07

Francis Bouillon is the recipient of the Jean Béliveau Trophy

MONTREAL (September 18, 2007) – The recipient of the Jean Béliveau trophy for the 2006-07 season was honored during a ceremony that preceded the game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre. All-time great Jean Béliveau was on hand to present the award to Canadiens’ defenseman Francis Bouillon for his involvement in the community.

The selection committee consisting of members of the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation board of directors evaluated the candidates according to the effort, enthusiasm, time and implication invested in both collective and personal initiatives. They were also evaluated on their commitment, leadership and financial assistance to the causes close to their heart.

Francis Bouillon’s humanitarian involvement is a true testimony of his commitment to others and particularly to children. When it comes to helping children, the enthusiasm and dedication he demonstrates at every personal or team event in the community make him a favorite among children who really relate to him as a person and as a hockey player. In spite of a busy hockey schedule and a number of personal commitments in 2006-07, Francis found time to support the Jeunes Sportifs de Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (JSHM), a Montreal neighborhood where he spent much of his youth. In his spare time, he discreetly visits hospitals where his friendly smile and comforting words carry a message of joy and hope to the children.

A humble man whose actions are genuine, Francis Bouillon makes it his duty to encourage and to spread a positive attitude among the sick or underprivileged children he meets during his visits. Children recognize and appreciate the sincerity of Francis and look up to him. Other finalists to the 2006-07 Jean Béliveau Trophy were Alex Kovalev and Cristobal Huet. Former recipients of the award since it was first introduced back in October 2003 are team captain Saku Koivu and forward Steve Bégin.

The Jean-Béliveau trophy is awarded annually to the Canadiens’ player who best exemplifies leadership qualities in the community. In honor of Jean Béliveau’s devotion, attentiveness and commitment to the community, the award is accompanied by a $25,000 donation from the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation to a children’s charity selected by the recipient.
